Water Supply Project
Guatemala - Río Chixoy

Community Background: The project is located in the Río Chixoy community of Guatemala. EWB-SBV is partnered with a local indigenous organization CECEP (Centro Comunitario Educativo Pokomchí) to help deliver clean drinking water to the community of approximately 250 people. The intended beneficiaries of this project are members of the Chicaman-Quiche municipality and the San Cristobal Verapaz-Alta Verapaz municipality who live on both sides of the Chixoy river. The communities' main economic endeavors are agriculture and gypsum extraction. These two municipalities have among the highest poverty rates in Guatemala, with an estimated 90% of people living in poverty, according to the General Secretariat of Planning and Programming of the Guatemalan Presidency.
Project Objectives: Join us as we learn more about this community and how we can help them meet their water supply goals.
The project objectives include:
-
Revitalizing an existing dilapidated water system within the community.
-
Installing a potable water distribution network.
-
Building the technical capacity of the community to operate and maintain the system long term.
